Where can my 4- or 5-year-old take karate or jiu-jitsu near Boston?

Brazilian Martial Arts Center (BMAC), at 700 Mystic Avenue in Somerville, teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu to 4- and 5-year-olds in its ages 3 to 5 class on Monday and Wednesday at 5pm and Saturday at 10:15am, and the first class is free. Karate at BMAC starts at age 6.

For 4- and 5-year-olds, BMAC starts with jiu-jitsu. Kids learn to fall safely, move their bodies and follow instructions in a group, which gives them a base for any martial art later.

When your child turns 6, they can join:

  • Brazilian jiu-jitsu, ages 6 to 17: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6pm; Tuesday and Thursday at 4pm
  • Karate, ages 6 to 17: Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm, Saturday at 11am
  • Muay Thai, ages 6 to 12: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5pm

Kids classes are taught by Alex Marshall, who holds a degree in physical education and is CPR/AED certified, and Nate Oses, who grew up training at BMAC and went on to win a world championship.

BMAC holds an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and has been family-owned in Somerville since 2001.

Parents are welcome to watch the trial class and every class after it.
