Are there private jiu-jitsu or MMA coaches in Somerville or near Boston?
Yes. Brazilian Martial Arts Center (BMAC), at 700 Mystic Avenue in Somerville, offers private lessons in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and MMA, as well as karate, Muay Thai and self-defense. Five BJJ black belts teach at BMAC, led by 5th-degree black belt and 1994 world champion Marcelo Siqueira.
For MMA, private lessons let you work on the transitions between striking and grappling, which group classes teach separately. For jiu-jitsu, they're a fast way to fix specific positions or prepare for a tournament.
Head instructor Marcelo Siqueira is a 5th-degree BJJ black belt and 1994 world champion who also holds black belts in judo and karate and is a former South American kickboxing champion. Instructors Karim Hallab and Alex Marshall still medal as black belts at IBJJF tournaments.
Group classes run every day of the week:
- Gi: Monday and Wednesday at 11am and 7pm, Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm, Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 12pm
- No-Gi: Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm, Friday at 11am
- Women's Gi class: Thursday at 7pm
- Open mat: Sunday at 11am
