Are there martial arts gyms near Somerville where parents and kids can train at the same time?
Yes. At Brazilian Martial Arts Center (BMAC), at 700 Mystic Avenue in Somerville, several kids classes run at the same time as adult classes, so a parent can train while their child does. The first class is free for both of you.
Times when kids and adult classes overlap:
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6pm: kids jiu-jitsu (ages 6 to 17) and adult Muay Thai
- Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm: kids karate (ages 6 to 17) and adult Muay Thai
- Saturday at 11am: kids karate (ages 6 to 17) and adult Muay Thai
See the full class schedule.
BMAC has memberships for Brazilian jiu-jitsu, for Muay Thai, or for both, and has been family-owned in Somerville since 2001.
Kids classes are taught by Alex Marshall, who holds a degree in physical education and is CPR/AED certified, and Nate Oses, who grew up training at BMAC and went on to win a world championship.
