Can teenagers join adult martial arts classes at gyms in Somerville?
At Brazilian Martial Arts Center (BMAC), at 700 Mystic Avenue in Somerville, older teens train in the adult Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai classes, and the first class is free. Teens up to 17 also have their own jiu-jitsu and karate classes.
BMAC's adult classes are all levels, and students pair up by size and experience, which makes them a workable step up for older teens. There's no published minimum age, so call Marcelo at (617) 628-3800 to check whether your teen is ready for the adult group.
